My work explores the combining of materials, form and movement as a language.
Through sculpture, drawing, writing and performance I aim to communicate the place where the natural and human worlds meet.
My artworks are made from whatever feels to me to be appropriate; most commonly I use objects which I have found in my immediate environment, alongside precisely crafted/machined metal and wooden elements.
I am fascinated by mechanical systems and how engineering principles can be used poetically to articulate feeling beyond utilitarian purpose.
I am fascinated by flight.
Photography
the process of combining accumulating into one picture plan
primacy of the human heart
finding intentionality within, this crucial primary aspect
natural
or human made mechanical body/invented bodies
I prefer not to rigidly join one thing to another and instead chose flexible and fluid jointing techniques found within biomechanics and traditional puppet design.
I aim to express apparent livingness through the tension, holding and release of materials.
My creative practice expresses subtleties within natural and human physical systems
I articulate the volatile blending of nature and human through sculpture, drawing, writing and performance.
The form is a continuation of my homage to the adaptive ingenuity of this nature of which we are all a part.
The poetic and fantastic is my preferred method of devising mechanical systems.
I observe and articulate through a conversation between poetic and the analytical methodologies.
I am drawn to working with those who specialise in the field of the biological sciences and my interest in the feeling and character of moving bodies attracts my collaborations to biomechanics in particular.
I am a choreographer of a thing into another thing
In my development of sculpture I communicate a sense of their being alive
My work explores the potential for materials, form and movement to be a universal physical language.
I am fascinated exploring methods to express life through the inanimate.
My creative process shifts between being collaborative and social and by reclusive solo studio..
I explore combinations of materials in conversation with each other
I engage in detailed observation and annotation of the natural environment which I am a part of
I am not so concerned with what differentiates humans from other species as I am with what we have in common, this applies to my expressions of societal distinctions and differences also.
I prefer to not rigidly join one thing to another and instead chose the dynamic and fluid jointing found in nature and through within the tradition of puppet design.
I exploit the inherent tension, holding and release of materials to express “livingness”.
