It's always such a creative explosion to work on a music video with director Simon Owens. The process usually begins with a telephone call where Simon suggests to me a totally-insanely-genius idea, I quickly get my notepad and pen and jot down initial thoughts on how the puppetry can be actuated, the ball starts truly rolling, momentum gathers a team is assembled and hey presto, next thing you know is that there is a brilliantly unique piece of music-video-art to view online! The music vid for Spell was no exception, I coordinated a great team of puppeteers; Chloe Purcell and Oliver Hymans and the result speaks for itself. My favourite section is when the man gets deposited in the drawer by the sheet/duvet ensemble, this idea seemed even at the last minute on set too complex technically to pull off but wow it worked a treat. I love how raw this video is and look forward to next time the telephone rings and Simon is on the other end!!
